3 Things You Might Not Know About Me

3 Things You Might Not Know About Me

…or maybe you do know. But I’m going to tell you anyway!

I thought it might be fun to share a few things about me that make me, me! And what better way to share than with all of you?

I’m really into video games.

To this day, I’ve never played WOW (World of Warcraft). But I’ve always wanted to!

I’m usually into simulation type of games like Sims, most of the Tycoon games and, Mario Kart, duh. I’m actually a HUGE Sims fan.

It’s a thing.

I was introduced to Sims when I was in the fifth grade. It was like a ground-breaking discovery for my little 1o-year old self. So, of course I bought it right away. Same thing for Sims versions 2 and 3. When Sims 4 came around in 2014, I was a little slower to buy it. I had just graduated from undergrad, and to my surprise (I’m kidding–sort of) I actually had things (aka responsibilities) to take care of. Thus, I wouldn’t have had much time to play anyway.

Eventually, I couldn’t resist the temptation and two years after its initial release I caved and bought it. So, basically I’ve been a “Simmer” for most of my life, and I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon.

I love reading Archie comics.

It was summertime and I was spending 7 weeks in New York with family–which, now looking back sounds like an amazing adventure. But at the time, I was about 9 or 10 and confused as to why my parents were leaving to head back home to California without me. Suffice to say, I didn’t fully grasp the concept of NYC and all of its grandness until it was too little too late. Despite my longing for home, I was able to spend those valuable 7 weeks with my grandma and got to spend some time with cousins that I usually only saw on a once-a-year basis.

On one of my visits to my older cousins’ house, I discovered the sheer awesomeness that was Archie comics. Instead of superheroes/sheroes, it was a series of comics that followed a group of your average, everyday teens throughout their silly adventures in high school, love triangles, navigating friendships or frenemies (looking at you, Betty and Veronica), and so on.

Needless to say, those next weeks flew by. I tore through comic after comic that my cousin let me “borrow” during my stay–yeah, he never got those back.

My obsession with the Archie comics series has dwindled, but only some, as I’ve gotten older. I don’t gobble them up as fast as I used to. You know, back when I was young(er), carefree–and actually, just had the time to do so. But every now and again, I’ll spot a new digest at Safeway. And sometimes, I’ll pick up a copy and get lost in the world that is Riverdale. I hope I always keep this love for comics as I get older and busier–it’s such a great nostalgic treat!

I’ve always been into the Arts.

3 Things You Might Not Know About Me - Hamilton: An American Musical

Mom & I had the opportunity to go see Hamilton: An American Musical at the SHN Orpheum in San Francisco in May.

I can remember one of my first performances at 5 years old. It was a dance recital at our local community center. I was probably off to the side somewhere, dancing off-beat most likely, to the fantastical “Puff, The Magic Dragon” while my parents looked on from the audience. And the rest is history–well, kind of.

The performing arts has always fascinated me. I’ve found that as I get older, my love for theater, musical or otherwise continues to grow. I was cast in various school plays and made a point to be associated with the arts departments in any way possible. I loved performing–the frenzied buzz backstage, the adrenaline rush of opening nights–all of it was so exciting. And when we didn’t get into our high school’s Advanced Drama group, my best friend and I sought out a local community theater class to partake in instead. Whatever it took, I just wanted so badly to perform.

Theater has always been a part of who I am. Not just acting or singing in a show, but listening and partaking in the beauty that is the performing arts. Lately, I’ve been geeking out over Hamilton and reminiscing about Wicked and Phantom of the Opera, which are three of my favorite shows that I’ve seen so far.

Michael Luwoye, ladies and gentlemen–aka Hamilton, himself.

Hopefully these 3 things you may…or may not have known about me were fun to discover. Thanks for reading and I can’t wait to share more of what makes me…me with you again soon!

I enjoyed reading this post. I loved reading Archie comics when i was younger but I wasn’t a die-hard fan. I got them from my brother, now he’s the video game and comic book fan. I remember him telling me to ask my Dad to buy us a video game because I was the youngest at the time. Daddy said NO. I’m sure he guessed it was my brother who wanted it.

This post brought back some good memories. Thanks, LeighAnn😊
